BYD Q3 Net Profit Rises 28.08% as Nine-Month Earnings Remain Down 4.24%
BYD Company Limited reported third-quarter revenue of RMB 221.488 billion, up 13.59% year on year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 10.020 billion, up 28.08%. The unaudited report also shows that January–September revenue was almost flat at RMB 566.304 billion, while attributable net profit declined 4.24% to RMB 22.345 billion. The quarterly improvement therefore coexists with a weaker cumulative comparison.

Quarterly Revenue and Profit Both Increased
BYD Company Limited disclosed its third-quarter report on 29 October, covering the period ended 30 September 2026. For the third quarter alone, operating revenue reached RMB 221.488 billion, up 13.59% year on year. Net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was RMB 10.020 billion, up 28.08%.

The figures refer to BYD Company Limited's consolidated reporting scope. They are company financial results, not a measure of the whole Chinese vehicle industry. Revenue also should not be described as profit: the two lines measure different parts of the income statement.
The Beijing News independently reported the same quarterly revenue and attributable-profit figures on 31 October. Its account describes the quarterly net profit as returning above RMB 10 billion after six quarters, a historical comparison made by the newspaper rather than a separate company financial metric.
The Nine-Month Comparison Is Less Favourable
For January–September, BYD reported RMB 566.304 billion of operating revenue, up 0.01%. Over the same cumulative period, net profit attributable to shareholders was RMB 22.345 billion, down 4.24%.
That distinction matters. A 28.08% increase in third-quarter profit does not mean nine-month profit increased by the same percentage. The quarterly figure covers July–September only, while the cumulative figure includes January–June as well. Using the quarterly growth rate beside the nine-month profit total would mix incompatible periods.

Likewise, nine-month revenue growth of 0.01% indicates an almost flat year-on-year comparison at the reported precision. It should not be rounded into a stronger growth narrative, and it should not be used to infer the cause of the third-quarter improvement without further segment and cost analysis.
What the Results Do and Do Not Explain
The filing establishes the direction and size of the reported financial changes. It does not, in these headline lines alone, allocate the improvement among vehicle mix, pricing, overseas operations, component businesses, expenses or other factors. Those explanations require additional disclosures and should not be presented as proven by revenue and profit growth alone.
For readers following vehicle exports, company results provide corporate context rather than a direct measure of export volumes. A profitable quarter does not establish the condition of any individual vehicle, the availability of a particular model in a destination, or the level of local parts and service support.
Four Rules for Reading the Update
- Keep the periods attached. Third-quarter revenue and profit cover three months; the January–September figures cover nine months.
- Use the same profit definition. The figures above are net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company, not total net profit or an adjusted earnings measure.
- Do not turn company results into industry totals. BYD's consolidated figures describe its own reporting perimeter, not all Chinese automakers.
- Separate financial and operating data. Revenue and earnings do not substitute for clearly scoped company sales, export or registration statistics.
Source and Measurement Note
The financial figures come from BYD Company Limited's unaudited 2026 third-quarter report, disclosed on 29 October. The Beijing News and Shanghai Securities News independently reported the same headline quarterly and nine-month figures on 30–31 October. Monetary amounts are consolidated figures in renminbi, rounded here to three decimal places in billions; percentages are year-on-year changes for the matching reporting period and metric.
